(bright music) - A celebration of cycling, featuring a slow roll ride and community party, may be rolling to a neighborhood near you.
Here from the Bicycle Collective to talk about Bike Prom is Thomas Cooke.
Welcome, Thomas.
- Thanks for having me.
- So do people do prom proposals for the Bike Prom?
- They absolutely should, and we encourage people, when we announce the save the date, to find a date.
- [Liz] Yes, absolutely, so tell us about Bike Prom.
What does it entail?
- Well, Bike Prom is a combination of a slow roll ride, similar to a critical mass ride, where people are just taking up the streets on bikes, and it starts and finishes at Woodbine Food Hall, which is in the Grainery District, and that's our venue for the party that follows the ride, - [Liz] Dancing, music, everything that comes with a prom, right?
- [Thomas] Food, dancing, silent auction, we have a great silent auction with all sorts of donated items to help us raise money.
- [Liz] And I was also trying to picture how people dress for a Bike Prom, and there are actually some people who wear dresses on bikes, which is really interesting.
- It is very interesting.
Costumes or getting dressed up, highly encouraged for this event.
Not mandatory, but it just adds to the fun.
- I love to see the creativity and the things that people come up with with their costumes, and there's also creativity in art featured at Bike Prom as well.
- There is, yeah.
We do a poster every year, and this is this year's poster from a local artist named Leo Espinoza.
- [Liz] Love that.
- We like to mix it up and have different people bring their vision to, what is Bike Prom all about?
What's the spirit of it?
- And I bet it also inspires people, like okay, this is how I should dress, or this is the spirit that I should carry when I attend Bike Prom as well, and you're raising funds for the Bicycle Collective, too, through all of this?
- Yeah, we do.
It is our primary visible fundraiser, and we call it more of a friend-raiser, and we put a lot of work into it and hope people have a great time.
- All right, well, thank you so much for sharing all this information with us.
If you would like to attend this friend-raiser or show your support, the information is on your screen.
It's the Bike Prom, May 30th from six to 11:00 PM at Woodbine Food Hall.
Just go to the bicyclecollective.org.
