(bright music) - Well, here's your invite to party with the stars, planets, galaxies, and nebula, so to speak.
The Utah Valley Astronomy Club wants you to experience it all through shared telescopes and expert guidance.
Here to tell us how you can attend this space jam is Walter Williams.
Welcome, Walter.
- Hi.
Thank you.
- So tell me about this star party.
What should people expect if they attend?
- Well, you should expect probably 20 or so telescopes all focused on different areas of the sky, different types of objects, sometimes star clusters, sometimes nebulas and you know, galaxies and almost anything else that you can imagine out there.
- [Liz] And what is it like to be able to view these through these telescopes and amongst people who share this passion?
- It's extraordinary.
The first time I could see like Saturn with my own eyes and see the rings and the shadow of the rings on the planet, it takes you away.
It's different than just looking at a picture.
- That's incredible.
And so many people, they feel slightly afraid to come to this.
Like maybe their knowledge or skill level isn't at a certain point.
But why should people come anyways?
- Because just the love of the night sky and just wanting to see what's out there.
We often have people that have never looked through a telescope before and it just, it gives them that moment where they've seen something that they've just never been able to do before.
- Yeah, I like that you did that.
It was like it takes your breath away, right?
- Yeah.
- One thing that we were talking about before the interview is, you know, you have some tips for people if they're going for the first time.
Like people like me might bring a flashlight.
What should people do?
- Generally, you know, a flashlight is good, preferably red because your eyes will dilate under a white light.
And of course, always try and point it down just so you can see where you're going.
- Wanna make sure people can have the best view of everything that's out there in the sky.
So thank you so much for being here.
If you would like to check out the Star Party, it is June 6th from nine to 11:30 PM at Camp Floyd Cemetery.
