And growing up, I was allowed to change her clothes twice a year with, under my grandmother's supervision.
APPRAISER: Yes.
GUEST: So we would put her in her winter finery and then her summer finery.
(laughs) APPRAISER: Oh, gosh.
Well, your doll is from 1860.
GUEST: Okay-- oh, great!
APPRAISER: And she is made of wax, but we call her "wax over."
GUEST: Okay.
APPRAISER: So there's, like, a little sturdiness under her, and then the wax goes over that.
GUEST: Okay.
APPRAISER: And of course, then she has the glass eyes.
GUEST: Right.
APPRAISER: And the beautiful original wig.
And then she's got this whole beautiful wardrobe.
We have her photograph with her original owner, and we can see that the doll is actually wearing the dress that we have down in the forefront.
So your doll, including all of this trousseau, all original to the doll, would retail from $6,000 to $7,500.
GUEST: Wow.
(laughs) I had no idea.
